CGL Insurance Extensions

A basic CGL policy, which is normally the one required by local government units for business permit application and renewals, cover liabilities to third parties for incidents that could happen within your business premises only.

To make the coverage more comprehensive, you may opt to include extensions to "buy-back" the exclusions a basic CGL insurance policy normally has. The common extensions available are:

  • Sudden & Accidental Pollution Liability – protects against short-term, unexpected pollution incidents that cause third-party injury or property damage.

  • Products & Completed Operations Coverage – covers liability claims that arise after a product has been sold or a service or project has been completed.

  • Care, Custody, and Control (CCC) – covers damage to property that is temporarily under the insured’s supervision or responsibility.

  • Contractual Liability – provides coverage for liabilities assumed under contracts, such as hold-harmless or indemnity agreements.

  • Personal & Advertising Injury Coverage – protects against claims like libel, slander, copyright infringement in advertising, and wrongful eviction.

  • Medical Payments Extension – pays medical expenses for injured third parties, even without proving negligence (often used as goodwill protection).

  • Cross Liability Clause – allows parties insured under the same policy to claim against each other as if they were separately insured.

  • Employee’s Personal Effects Liability – covers loss or damage to employees’ personal belongings while inside the insured premises.

  • Food & Beverage Liability – covers claims arising from food poisoning or allergic reactions from food and drinks served by the insured.

  • Exhibitors / Vendors / Stallholders Liability – adds protection for concessionaires participating in trade fairs, bazaars, and commercial events.​
